Was born in Belluno in 1923, deported in Germany during the second World War, he begins to photograph in Nurnberg in 1944 ith an equipment of fortune recovered among the rubbles of the city. Reentered in Italy, in 1948 he organize the first personal show. In 1953 he enters to belong to editing of Epoca, periodic of covers and innumerable reports from the whole world. The consacration of its activity arrives in 1956 with the service on the popular revolt of Budapest, in which the appellative will be earned of " crazy italian". In over fifty years he has photographed the principal international events: ith his images they have been illustrated artiscles, special numbers of magazines and over 100 books, that are added to the numerous personal and collective shows. The most important recognitions for his long career begun from the seventies: among these, the Eric Salomon Colony Presi in 1973, the Saint Vincent prize for the journalism in 1982 and the prize to the career to the Festival of Arles in the 1994.
In the 1975, 1976, 1977 have belonged to the international jury of the World Press Photo in Amsterdam. He has exposed in the show "The Italian Metamorphosis, 1943-1968" to the Guggenheim Museum in New York and his photo "Gli italiani si voltano" has been used as official manifesto of the demonstration. In 2003 he has been honored some title of Teacher of the Italian Photo, maximum honor of the Federation Italian Photographic Associations.
